How Does ALGIS Work?

Here are the 3 reasons for our success:
  1. Our patented approach is the reverse of every other system. Our processing power focuses on defects, not on analyzing every square inch of clear material. This dramatically reduces the processing power required. Algis breaks down the massive amount of information required to grade lumber by using a modular system which scans the board in 2 foot sections. All four sides and both ends are scanned on each piece of lumber. There is a machine vision processor in each 2 foot module which applies the grading rules to each 2 foot section of lumber and then sends its decision to a host computer. The information is then combined from all of the modules to make a grade and trim decision. The downstream programming for the trimmer and sorter remains the same as ALGIS runs in parallel with your existing programming.

  2. Scanner lenses are purged with forced air which keeps them clean. This is key to good resolution and sharp images which are necessary for accuracy.

  3. Fast, non-mechanical boardturners, allow ALL scanners to view the lumber from above the table. ALGIS is partnered with SharkFin Boardturning Systems.
